The most common form that paper comes in is a ream. This is a standardized package of 500 sheets of paper and it doesn’t matter whether or not it’s sized as letter paper (8.5” x 11”) or legal (8.5” x 14”). On that ream is a weight that corresponds to its thickness. The standard weight is 20lbs for letter paper, but 24lbs and 40lbs are also common. These correspond to mid-weight and card stock paper respectively. Beyond that, paper can be purchased in different quantities outside of a ream.
